Where Are We ?
Uniquely positioned Bed & Breakfast in Castle Acre on the Peddars Way near Swaffham.
Castle Acre is ideally placed to explore the wonders of rural Norfolk and is blessed with an excellent pub specialising in high quality meals, Greene King ales and a wonderful atmosphere. The village also has two tea shops (one also serving take-away home-made pastries, pies and cakes); a convenience store and a post office. A second pub is approximately 20 minutes walk and also serves wonderful ales with excellent meals.
Who Are We ?
Marcon House was built in 1884 for the village doctor and we have lived here for 17 years and have been in Castle Acre since 1983. It is a five bedroomed property and, now that our children have fled the nest, we can offer an en-suite bed and breakfast (B & B) service and Peddars Way accommodation.
What Do We Offer ?
En-suite ground floor accommodation (private entrance) with the option of a single, twin or double bed with Egyptian cotton sheets; Welcome Tray; Freesat TV; complimentary Wi Fi; a brand new en-suite shower room with luxurious towels and Molton Brown toiletries; sumptuous breakfast options include our own free range eggs and locally-sourced bacon and sausages.
What Do We Charge ?
Single Occupancy - £45 a night
Double/Twin Occupancy - £65 a night
How Does One Pay ?
A deposit of £20 per night secures a B&B booking. Payment may be made by cash, credit card through Paypal or through this website or by cheque by prior arrangement. Rooms are normally available from 15.00 and should be vacated by 11.00.
Arriving On Foot ?
Walkers will find us at the top of Bailey Street in Castle Acre (the house name is Marcon House), 100 yards before the striking Baileygate. If you are walking the Peddars Way you will be able to pamper yourself with Molton Brown toiletries, catch up on your e-mails, eat well in the local pubs, slip your weary legs into fresh, crisp Egyptian cotton sheets after watching TV on the sofa in your room. In the morning enjoy a hearty breakfast featuring a local 'Full English' before heading back out on the Peddars Way.
Arriving By Car ?
Castle Acre is four miles outside Swaffham just off the A1065 and is ideally situated to strike out to Norwich, Kings Lynn and the North Norfolk coast. Cambridge and Peterborough are both within about an hour's drive. You will find us at the top of Bailey Street in Castle Acre (the
house name is Marcon House), 100 yards before the striking Baileygate and just after the Red Lion hostel.
Before you go......
Apart from the pub, tea rooms and not forgetting the Toy Shop, Castle Acre itself has wonderful walks in and around the local 'castle' ruins, through an English Heritage-run Priory and over our village water meadows. Useful websites describing local attractions are shown overleaf.
